The Biggest Book Show on Earth was held in Swansea this year and 600 children attended the event on Monday, 22 February at the Grand Theatre. In partnership with the Welsh Books Council, this one-day free event featured an all-star line-up of some of the biggest names in the children’s book world including Steven Butler, Nick Arnold, Tony De Saulles, Knife and Packer, Huw Aaron and Dan Anthony!
‘It’s a wonderful opportunity for primary school children to find out more about their favourite authors and illustrators, and to learn some of the tricks of the trade,’ explained Angharad Tomos, Reading Promotions Project Manager for the Welsh Books Council.
She added: ‘We are delighted that the Biggest Book Show on Earth is coming to the Grand Theatre in Swansea. It’s a great opportunity for local children to be entertained and inspired by some fantastic authors. We are so pleased that the tour is kicking off in Wales this year.’
Following the morning book show, the excitement continues at the Brangwyn Hall, Swansea where World Book Day will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the most people participating in simultaneous book quizzes. Schools from around south Wales will be taking part in the event.
Kirsten Grant, Director of World Book Day, is looking forward to the challenge:
‘If our Guinness World Record attempt is successful it’ll be the icing on the cake, proving that reading really can connect people all over the country. And what a brilliant memory for all the kids who take part!”
